D for deserted, which the department seems to be. The new semester will begin on December 22. Until then, staff members are away on vacation, courses, and conferences etc. Some may have simply disappeared.
D is for deadline and dateline, two words that get confused a lot. No wonder, for they are similarly pronounced.
dead•line (ˈdɛdˌlaɪn)A deadline gives you stress. A dateline is what you don’t read, until somebody points out that you’ve been raving about an article that is three years old.
